Biometric passports in the wings
In case you haven't heard, this fall will bring the first issuing of biometric passports. All new passports will come with a chip containing the photo and fingerprint of their rightful owner, which will be scanned by customs agents at border crossings and airports. You the traveler will need to have your fingerprint scanned (inklessly for your convenience) to make sure it matches the one on the chip and not one on a terrorist watch list. Of course we've pointed out some of the flaws in biometrics before, so some questions over the actual effectiveness of all this might be warranted. Granted it might be difficult to try the
Jello trick in an airport, but we're sure there are more sophisticated methods of bypassing these new security measures just waiting in the wings.
