An Apple is an Apple is an Apple
Silicon.com thinks Apple Computer needs a new name. Apparently, 'computer' is a 'geeky old '80s' word that doesn't fit with Apple's sleek new image. I don't know about retiring the word 'computer' as a relic of the 80s, but I can't remember the last time I used the phrase 'Apple Computer.' It's already 'just Apple' to me.
The argument is that Apple's big appeal is not really in their computers anymore, anyway. It's in the
chic retail stores, the wildly popular iPod, the iTMS, and other accoutrements that are gaining popularity in their own right, beyond being simply adjuncts to those geeky old computers.
Sure, I'm all for the name change. But these people have to realize what they're dealing with, here – this, a company that agonized over a lower case p in one simple product line. Changing the name of the entire enterprise? It could be an uphill battle.
