Senate removes anti-fast-forwarding provision from bill
We have some good news to report. Apparently the version of the
Intellectual Property Protection Act that the Senate passed, which is known as the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act of 2004, is missing parts of the bill that would have made it illegal to use hardware or software means to fast-forward or skip over the commercials placed before movies on DVDs, as well as provisions that would have had the attorney general filing civil lawsuits against copyright infringers. There's still lots not to like, but it looks like the most obviously stupid parts of the bill won't be making it into law now.
