Ntera's NanoChromics Display

Dublin-based company Ntera showed off their NanoChromics
Display (NCD) at DEMO 2005 yesterday.  The display uses a nanotechnology process to create a more paper-like
image than traditional LCD screen and supposedly delivers significant power savings (they've shoehorned one into
an iPod to give people a sense of what it looks like).  The image can even remain on the screen for weeks
without any power and doesn't need a backlight.  One thing that might give this technology a leg up is their
claim the regular LCD manufacturing facilities can apparently be easily retrofitted to produce NCDs (we'll see
about that one). The first batch will be shipping by the end of the year, but it'll likely be a while longer
before they start showing up in consumer products.
