PSP processing power held back by Sony?

When Sony listed the PlayStation Portable's technical specs last year, the processor was listed at a speed of 333MHz. However, at last month's GDC a Sony America exec dropped the fact that currently, the PSP's processing speed is being capped at 222MHz. Why keep a full 33.3 percent of the handheld's processing power in check? Rumour has it that extra power is being conserved to prolong battery life on the unit, as less processing power obviously consumes less power. The good side of all of this is that we can expect future games that take advantage of the full 333MHz to do more and run even more smoothly than they do now (and there ain't many folks complainin' currently). The bad side is that current PSP owners will have to buy a new battery when Sony develops a more efficient unit, if we want to take advantage of either the longer battery life or the increased processing power. Any overclockers out there already at work on this "issue"?
