Estone's Car MP3 Player Ripper-510 reviewed

Estone takes on the big guns (namely, Sony and Pioneer) with their built-in hard drive car radio/CD player. They aim to compete on price by charging half as much for twice the storage of the other models on the market, though at $700 estimated retail price, it's still more expensive than satellite radio. The device rips your CDs the first time you play them, and grabs track metadata from an integrated Gracenote service. You can also hook it up to your PC to fill up that 20GB drive in one fell swoop. PCMag takes a look at the unit and finds it functions as advertised, but suffers in the often-plagued realm of the user interface. The buttons on the faceplate are so small as to be practically inoperable while the vehicle is in motion. Additionally, the software on the unit isn't always intuitive, and the LCD
characters aren't as large as the size of the display might lead you to believe. However, if you need your music collection in the car untethered to a separate portable audio device, the Ripper-510 is a cheaper alternative to most of the other units out there.
