DingoTel 2Way adapter turns walkie talkies into VoIP phones
If you're looking for a nationwide walkie-talkie service, but don't want to spring for a Nextel account, the DingoTel 2Way VoIP adapter could meet your needs, albeit in a somewhat limited way. The device works like most VoIP
adapters; it hooks up to your computer via USB and includes software that lets you connect to any other computer running compatible software. What makes this adapter different is that it connects to a two-way radio instead of a headset or VoIP phone. Once your radio is connected, you can use a second radio to make VoIP calls from anywhere within range of its signal (typically 5-10 miles). If your contact on the other end is also using the 2Way, you can make radio-to-radio calls, using the net as a gateway. At about $29, the 2Way may be cheap enough to be worth a try,
especially if you've already got a few two-way radios lying around — though we'd like it a lot better if it ran over
Skype instead of Dingo's own proprietary software.
