Today's toilet tech: smart thrones for the disabled
You know how we feel about the toilet tech here at Engadget: around the office we refer to the throne as
"the other white gadget." We're happy to bring you the latest development from researchers at Vienna's Technical University, who report production of a "toilet with brains" for the elderly and disabled. Two versions have been designed to assist in the doing of the duty, one by accepting "smart cards" carrying data that tells the intelligent commode to adjust handrail and seat height to proper positioning (what, dudes, no SD? What kind of sick world is it when even the toilets are proprietary?), the other achieving the same effect via voice-recognition technology.
Full-scale production on the brilliant bowls is expected to get underway before the end of this year.
