Entry level DLP projector from Toshiba

Our fine friends from the United Kingdom have a nice review of an entry level DLP projector from Toshiba that's just a shade over a grand. For roughly $1,100 you can pick up the TDP-MT200 and project an HD image from 24- to 290-inches diagonal. Of course, you'll have to spend much more than that for a room to fit a 290-inch screen, but Toshiba can't help you with that.

What I found most impressive were the brightness and contrast of the review unit. Contrast comes in at 2,500:1 and the projector outputs an image at 750 lumens. With those specifications, you might be able to use this in a room that isn't totally darkened. The TDP-MT200 only has composite and DVI inputs, but not everyone has adopted HDMI just yet, so you can't fault Toshiba. Besides, an HDMI cable for this unit might add a good 10% to the unit price itself.

Although the resolution isn't indicated, at this price you're probably looking at a 720p output resolution. It certainly takes up less space than a standard HDTV set, so it might be worth the tradeoff.
