Lexmark introduces first PC-less photo printer with integrated CD-burner
Well it's official; we can finally throw away our computers and free up much-needed desk space for
iZes,
Furbies, and
cutesy USB peripherals. Today Lexmark fired a warning shot across PC-manufacturers' collective bow with the release of their P450 inkjet photo printer/CD-burner. Not only does this printer not require a PC, it is actually incompatible with Mac and Windows, which would seem to limit its appeal to the 5 people who own a digital camera but not a computer. Although PC-less printing is nothing new, Lexmark claims the P450 is the first printer to integrate a burner, allowing you to archive all the photos from your media cards or USB storage drives. If your pics need a little touch-up work, the included LCD and editing software will prove quite handy. The built-in card reader handles all major flash formats (a special media adapter is needed for the little guys: MemoryStick Duo and miniSD) plus an optional Bluetooth dongle lets you print all those frameworthy cellphone pics.
