Next Blackberry to use Intel "Hermon" chipset

It's always nice to run some non-lawsuit-related RIM news, so we are pleased to bring you Intel's announcement that their next-gen mobile chipset, codenamed "Hermon," will be the heart of Research in Motion's future Blackberry
devices. Although few details are available on the next BB itself (the
8700?), we do know that the Hermon chipsets will incorporate "Monahans" XScale processors (that hover around the 1 GHz mark and support VGA resolution), UMTS baseband chips, and Intel-produced flash memory. RIM's decision to go Intel completes a one-two punch for the Microsoft-Intel
cabal colaborative, seeing how it follows yesterday's
official unveiling of the WM5 Treo 700w. RIM continues to dominate the PDA market (with a 23.2% share), followed by Palm and HP, while Microsoft continues to dominate the OS
market (with a 99.999% share), followed by some other little company.

[Thanks, Corey]
