HP goes small with Compaq Presario B1800
We're a little surprised to see HP marketing the Compaq Presario B1800. No, we're not surprised that HP has come out with a sleek, affordable ($1,200), lightweight (3.5 pounds), powerful (2 GHz Pentium M) notebook. Pretty much every PC-maker is going after the light-but-powerful-and-affordable market segment, and HP has certainly been there before with various Omnibooks and Pavilions. What's surprising is that they've attached the Compaq Presario brand to this one.
After all, the Presario name doesn't exactly conjure up images of stylish, powerful subnotebooks. It's a name associated with hulking, practical (and fairly ugly, to be frank) desktop replacements. But if HP wants to try to extend the brand this way, more power to them. No doubt they've got to try to salvage something from their ownership of Compaq.
