Feds say you can have our BlackBerrys when you pry them from our cold dead hands
It's no joke that RIM is under the gun these days — they've lost a series of key rulings in their
ongoing legal battle with NTP over patents related to the BlackBerry's wireless email technology — but it looks like they have found an ally in the US
government. Well, maybe not an ally, exactly, but the Justice Department just filed a legal brief asking a federal court to delay any shutdown of RIM's tech for at least 90 days while they put together a list of Federal employees whose service must absolutely not be cut off (Federales make up 10% of BlackBerry users in US). NTP, not surprisingly,
doesn't think that there's any reason to stay the injuction and so is fighting this, but there's still hope for RIM —
you really don't want to get between a Congressperson and their CrackBerry.
