Epic's Bleszinski warns of tipping point, industry crash
In an interview with MTV, Epic's Cliffy Bleszinski (or "CliffyB"),
lead designer of Gears of War, recently called for a video game price slash. "What other entertainment medium that's mass market is at $60 a pop?", CliffyB questioned. Although development and production costs will be higher in this next-generation, CliffyB doesn't believe that consumers should be forced to pay more.
In fact, if retail costs continue to rise, CliffyB foresees the industry crashing. Ironically, Gears of War
will likely ship with a top-dollar price tag. It might be hard for CliffyB to stick to his ideals once those royalties start coming in... Be stong, Bleszinski. Be strong.
