Core Duo reviewed: "better performance, longer battery life"

We've seen Tom's Hardware
thoroughly test a Core Duo laptop and determine that, although the new processor platform does indeed improve performance, it also plays a part in a mysterious decline in battery life. Now, we have AnandTech's take on Intel's new chips, and they were also impressed by the performance, but didn't notice any drop in battery power. The Anand reviewer found that "you get better performance, longer battery life and all of this at the same price as last year's notebooks." According to the review, if there's one problem with Core Duo processors: it's that there just aren't enough of them to go around right now. As for battery life, Anand's review actually found that Core Duo-based laptops were able to run nearly 15% longer on battery power than similarly equipped Pentium M computers (for power-hungry apps like DVD viewing, Anand found battery life to be on par with the Pentium M). Looks like the mystery has just deepened.
