Line Report: AT&T store, Union Square NYC

On my way to work I swung by the AT&T Store on the northern edge of NYC's Union Square. At 9:15 am, the line was approximately 20 people long, including an impressive air mattress/tent combination at the front of the queue.

I chatted briefly with the line-leading gentlemen (and one young lady who chose not to be photographed); most of them arrived at about 10 pm Thursday night, with some coming later at about 1 am; the next folks in line started arriving at about 6:15 am. All were excited to be getting their hands on the iPhone, and since the oppressive heat that's smothered New York for the past few days appears to have broken, they should have a relatively easy wait.

The line leaders, from left to right: filmmaker brothers Casey and Van Neistat (creators of the iPod's Dirty Secret video); Daniel Feldman (standing in red jacket; he described himself as "the world's biggest TUAW fan" — thanks Daniel!); and "destination network" Plum TV's spokesperson Graham Veysey (no longer rockin' the 'stache, as you can see). They asked me why I wasn't in line myself, and the sad truth is: I can't afford an iPhone right now.

It's nice that the Neistats don't bear a residual iPod grudge after the bad battery experience, dontcha think?

I'll try to sidle over to the other nearby AT&T Store on 6th Avenue for a report later today.
