US Music

US: Spring Again, Lanae' Hale
Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. MGMT (short for "management") is a group from Brooklyn whose debut was produced by frequent Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann. They also spent a good part of 2007 opening for Of Montreal. Brightly lit psychedelic rock with electronic overtones is how you might describe "Time to Pretend." It's crunchy pop gem bedazzled with laser rays and glam-rock stomp.

US: Maria Jose, Quien Eres Tu (Featuring Trey Songz)
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. Mexico's María Jose asks a very sensible question on this stand-out track from her self-titled debut. Abetted here by Trey Songz (in his most Michael Jackson-esque form), this fierce little slice of electro-pop R&B alternates slick sweetness with a touch of rock guitar spice.

International Music

Australia: Matt Costa, Mr. Pitiful
Each week we find a track from an artist or band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. "Mr Pitiful" is the spunky, piano-driven opener from Matt Costa's forthcoming album Unfamiliar Faces, the follow-up to his 2005 debut Songs We Sing. "Mr. Pitiful" finds Costa wrapping his appealing melodies in increasingly ambitious packages that recall the Shins, Spoon, and Ben Folds.

Canada: Luke Doucet & The White Falcon, First Day (In the New Hometown)
Each week we find a track from an artist or band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. Luke Doucet has been on our radar for a while now thanks to his gritty mixture of slashing guitar twang and a complete love of pop purity. His newest album Bloods to Rich shows his influences with one song lamenting the death of the Band's Rick Danko while another is a jaunty reworking of the Cure's "The Lovecats." This tune, "First Day in the New Hometown" is a crackling mixture of jangling pop and roots-rock crunch.

Nederland: The Madd, Jump Now!

UK: Sarabeth Tucek, Hot Tears
Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. Sarabeth Tucek is a Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter who has lent her atmospheric vocal skills to people like Bill Callahan and the Brian Jonestown Massacre in the past. This track from her self-titled debut has the angelic, awkward beauty of an acoustic singer/songwriter track from the early '70s, but when the electric guitars come in, it has all the slow-burning crunch of Neil Young with his beloved Crazy Horse in tow. It's a beautiful cut – dreamy, haunted, wistful, and epic.

France: I&Fused, Paranoid
