Dear Aunt TUAW: Why are there TV Squad Posts in your RSS feeds?

Dear Aunt TUAW,

I'm dying here. Your RSS feed is full, I mean FULL, of posts from TV Squad. I don't watch TV. How do I get the TV out of my TUAW feed?

Love and thanks!

Your affectionate nephew

Dear nephew,

I'm afraid that TUAW and some of our sister blogs experienced a minor glitch last night. But the RSS feeds have been fixed now and you shouldn't be receiving any more Joystiq and TV Squad posts in the TUAW feed. Make sure that your reader isn't caching those other stories.

In Safari, for example, you can choose Safari > Empty Cache (Command-Option-E). This clears all your existing caches, including your RSS feeds. In Mail, try removing and then re-adding the feed. Other RSS clients may offer a way to reload the feed directly. If they don't, try the same remove-then-re-add solution.

There are still lingering cached feeds out there, especially if you use a web-based service like Yahoo! or Google Reader. If you view one of the feeds directly in your browser (go to http://www.tuaw.com/rss.xml, for example) you can see that there are no TV Squad articles there. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do to remove misdirected posts from any readers that have already seen them though. Please just be patient, and if your reader still isn't dropping the wrong articles, just do your best to ignore them for now, as you shouldn't be seeing any new ones come in.

And while we're talking about RSS feeds, don't forget that TUAW now allows you to exclude tagged topics from your feeds using our new "not" feature. For example, feed://www.tuaw.com/not/ipad,iphone/rss.xml prevents any post that's tagged as iPhone or iPad from reaching your RSS reader. That tagging does depend on human TUAW bloggers — and we're trying as hard as we can to tag our posts properly. But please be patient with us if, for example, your feed://www.tuaw.com/not/ipad/rss.xml contains a stray iPad story or two.

Hugs,

Auntie T.
